The activity provided local legislators with pertinent information and new ideas on carrying out their powers, duties and responsibilities. The subjects tackled included "Functions and Duties of Sangguniang Barangay Members", (as prescribed in Sec 391 of RA 7160) "Legislative Functions of the Sangguniang Barangay", "Leadership", and "Public Ethics and Accountability". The gathering was also an opportunity for our Barangay Kagawads to interact and exchange ideas with their counterparts from the other barangays of District I.
The resource person was the ever engaging Ms.Thelma Japzon. (The author had the pleasure of attending a previous seminar where Ms. Japzon was one of the resource speakers) The seminar was concluded with a graduation ceremony at Villa Escudero's Coconut Pavilion, attended by no less than Quezon City Mayor Sonny Belmonte Jr. himself. In his speech, the mayor also revealed development plans on rehabilitating / reconstructing the Quezon City General Hospital, now that's good news indeed for the residents of Quezon City!

On a side note: I was also impressed by the Villa Escudero Folkloric Dance Troupe (right) who graced the event with a performance of different indigenous Filipino dance while being accompanied by the Villa Escudero Rondalla. What made the performance more impressive was when it was revealed that the dance troupe members were in fact, members of the Villa Escudero staff (garden tenders, front desk personel, museum guides, pavilion staff, etc..) , their children and grand children.
